Phoenix Country Club in central Phoenix: the course, amenities, homes, and membership

Your vision, your home, our expertise.

Phoenix Country Club has hosted the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship every year since 2017, and the 2026 event tees off November 12 at 7th Street and Thomas Road. That puts a 1921-era central Phoenix course, and the homes around it, in front of a national golf audience for a week. Here is what the club offers, what nearby homes are listed for right now, and how membership works.

The short answer Phoenix Country Club is a private club founded in 1899 that has been at 2901 N. 7th Street since 1921. It has an 18-hole Harry Collis course redesigned by Tom Lehman and John Fought, 10 lighted tennis courts, pickleball, three pools, a fitness center, and eight banquet venues. Homes in Redfin's Phoenix Country Club neighborhood were listed from $184,900 to $2,800,000 on October 26, 2026. The club does not publish membership fees, so you need to contact it directly.

The golf course and its history

Harry Collis, a Chicago-area architect, laid out the 18 holes when the club moved to 7th Street and Thomas Road. The original course had oiled sand greens and grass fairways, according to AZ Big Media. Tom Lehman and John Fought rebuilt the course in the early 2000s. Fought called it a total rebuild: holes were lengthened, drainage improved, and greens, tees, and bunkers reshaped. Most sources date that work to 2002; one page on the club's own site says 2007.

The course is a parkland style layout with mature trees, a contrast with the desert courses farther north in the Valley. It hosted the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open in most years from 1932 until the event moved to TPC Scottsdale in the late 1980s. The club's course record of 61 is shared by several tour players, according to Wikipedia.

Day to day, the club describes an open tee policy with no tee times required, plus a driving range, putting green, and short game practice area.

Amenities beyond golf

The club's lifestyle page lists these facilities, as of October 26, 2026:

  • 10 lighted tennis courts, pickleball courts, and a full-service tennis shop. The tennis facility has hosted the Arizona Tennis Classic, an ATP Challenger event, since 2019.
  • Three pools, including a heated 25-yard, six-lane lap pool open year round.
  • A fitness center with group classes such as yoga, barre, and Pilates, plus personal training.
  • Locker rooms with steam rooms, massage treatment rooms, and a barber shop.
  • Dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and eight banquet venues for private events.

Homes around the club

The club built Country Club Estates around the course to help fund the move in the 1920s. Wikipedia reports 52 homesites, 48 of which are still single-family homes, and four houses on the National Register of Historic Places: the Bennitt Mansion (1925), Craig Mansion (1928), Fred G. Hilvert House (1929), and Borah House (1931).

Redfin's Phoenix Country Club neighborhood is broader than that original subdivision. On October 26, 2026, it showed 23 homes for sale. The mix included condos and other attached units along Osborn Road and 7th Street, homes on nearby side streets such as Catalina Drive, Avalon Drive, and Flower Street from $690,000 to $1,115,000, and two homes on N. Country Club Drive at $1,595,000 and $2,800,000. Five of the 23 were asking $1,000,000 or more.

For broader context, ZIP code 85014 had a median sale price of $459,865 over the three months ending September 2026, down 12.4% from a year earlier, with 66 homes sold in September, per Redfin. That ZIP covers far more than the club area, so treat it as background, not a value for any one house.

How membership works

Phoenix Country Club is private. Its website does not publish dues, initiation fees, or a full list of rules. It links to pages on membership categories and privileges and offers a membership request form. The club's phone number is 602.263.5208.

Owning a home next to the course and holding a membership are separate things. A house in Country Club Estates does not come with a membership unless the club tells you otherwise in writing.

Practical steps if you are looking near the club

  • Call the club before you write an offer. If membership matters to you, ask about categories, current availability, any waitlist, and total first-year cost. Get it in writing.
  • Check historic status. Four homes in Country Club Estates are on the National Register of Historic Places. Ask the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office whether any local historic review applies before planning exterior changes.
  • Read the HOA or condo documents. Condo buildings nearby can carry very different dues, reserves, and rental rules. Ask for the budget, reserve study, and recent meeting minutes.
  • Plan around tournament week. The Schwab Cup brings spectators and event activity to the club each November, so check the dates if you are scheduling showings or a move.
  • Avoid this mistake: do not price a home off the ZIP code median or the neighborhood median asking price. With only a handful of sales near the club each month, value comes down to the specific street, lot, and condition. Ask for a comparable sales analysis built from recent closings.

The honest caveats

Very few homes sell near the club in any given month. Redfin's market page for its Phoenix Country Club neighborhood showed just one home sold in its latest period, which is why we do not quote a neighborhood median sale price here. Active listings change daily and asking prices are not sale prices. Sources also disagree on some course details, including the redesign year and yardage, which usually reflects different tees or different pages being updated at different times. Membership terms can change at any time, so confirm with the club.

The bottom line

Phoenix Country Club pairs a golf club founded in 1899 with tennis, pickleball, pools, and fitness in a central Phoenix location. Homes around it range from attached units under $200,000 to estates on Country Club Drive, so price, building type, and historic rules matter more than the address alone. If membership is part of the plan, talk to the club early, since costs are not published.
