The story of the Cave Creek Town Core

How the area came to be.

Cave Creek began around 1870 as a mining and ranching settlement and Cavalry stop on a military wagon road; Cave Creek Road was built from Phoenix in 1873 and gold was found on Gold Hill in the 1870s (the General Plan says 1874). Jeriah Wood built Cave Creek Station in 1877. Cave Creek Road was paved in 1952 and electricity and phone service arrived in 1946.

Residents incorporated the town on July 6, 1986, and the Town Core has been its commercial center throughout. The 2024 Town Core Plan guides it as a pedestrian scaled mixed use, Western themed district.
