The story of Deer Valley Village

How the area came to be.

Phoenix has been divided into urban villages since 1979 under its Phoenix Concept 2000 plan, growing from nine villages to 15, each with a council appointed village planning committee. The Deer Valley name first appeared on a 1921 General Land Office map for the valley formed by Skunk Creek; its exact origin is unclear. Phoenix Deer Valley Airport grew from land near a 1950s Sperry Flight Systems plant, became a private airport and was sold to the City of Phoenix in 1971.
