The story of the Fifth Avenue District
How the area came to be.
Artist Lloyd Kiva New arrived in Scottsdale in 1946 and, after a 1950 fire destroyed his first arts center, built the Kiva Craft Center at the southeast corner of Craftsman Court and Fifth Avenue in phases from 1955 to 1958. Craftsman Court (1955 to 1958) is on the Scottsdale Historic Register.
The Bronze Horse Fountain by artist Bob Parks at the Fifth Avenue and Marshall Way roundabout is the street's centerpiece. The city plan stresses pedestrian links between Fifth Avenue and the Arizona Canal.
