The story of Midtown Phoenix
How the area came to be.
Midtown grew as Phoenix's second office and apartment spine along Central Avenue in the postwar decades. Park Central, at Central and Osborn on the former 46 acre Central Avenue Dairy, opened with a Goldwater's anchor in November 1956 and a ribbon cutting for its first 31 stores on April 1, 1957; it was later converted to offices. Light rail opened through Midtown on Central in 2008, and the City Council adopted the Midtown TOD Policy Plan and the Walkable Urban Code in 2015.
