The story of the McDowell Road Corridor
How the area came to be.
McDowell Road was southern Scottsdale's commercial spine. Los Arcos Mall opened at Scottsdale and McDowell roads in 1969, closed in 1999, and was sold to the ASU Foundation in 2004 for the SkySong innovation center, named in 2006 with its first buildings open in 2008.
The Southern Scottsdale plan (2010) places the SkySong Regional Center at Scottsdale and McDowell, the Papago Regional Center at Galvin Pkwy and McDowell, and the Pima Regional Center west of McDowell and Pima. The city has tracked the corridor with facts and figures and a 10-year resale housing analysis.
