The story of Lincoln Drive

How the area came to be.

Camelback Inn opened at what is now 5402 E Lincoln Dr on December 15, 1936, founded by Jack Stewart with money and land from industrialist John C. Lincoln, and Marriott bought it in 1968. The Paradise Valley Country Club followed in 1954, and Mountain Shadows opened on Lincoln Dr on January 16, 1959 to a design by Martin Stern Jr.; it closed in 2004, was torn down in 2014 and reopened as a new resort in 2017 under Westroc Hospitality and Woodbine Development. The Town incorporated May 24, 1961 and keeps its offices at 6401 E Lincoln Dr. Resorts on or near Lincoln Dr operate under Town Special Use Permits; the newest is the Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley by Five Star Development at 7000 E Lincoln Dr, a roughly 122 acre resort and residential community whose retail portion (The Palmeraie, about 18 acres at Scottsdale Rd and Indian Bend Rd) was approved by the City of Scottsdale in 2017.
